Low Fee Couples Counselors List

Almost all couples would benefit from working with a good couples therapist.  While I do have a few slots that I provide a sliding fee for, often they are taken.  In order to better assist you in finding assistance, I have put the word out there with therapists that I know in order to find therapists and therapist interns that provide services to couples for low-fees.  I can not personally vouch for any of them.  I do not supervise any of them.  However, I have asked them to write a little bit about their experience.  If anybody that you contact no longer takes low-fee clients, please contact me via email at todd@toddharveymft.com so I can take them off of the list.  Please check out my page (Questions To Ask when Looking For A Couples Therapist) for feedback on your quest for somebody who can help you.

EFT Trained List:

Maya Diamond: I do low-fee couples therapy and would love to work with them.  My sliding scale begins at $60 per session for couples.  My therapy phone # is 510-495-0547. I use the EFT model in couples therapy.

 Dave Walcott,
I graduated in June from the JFK Transpersonal program, and am working as an MFT post-grad trainee at Heart in Balance in Oakland.  I use primarily Hakomi and EFT with couples, although I’m not officially certified in either one.  Issues of shame, trauma and attachment wounding are my strong suits.
Fee scale is $50-$70
Dave, a JFK grad, just opened a low-fee, supervised private practice at Heart-in-Balance, Telegraph, Oakland.  Not sure how much EFT, etc. he has studied but he’s warm, very relational and supervised by Patricia Craven who gets rave reviews:

Amelia Kriss
I’m a Drama Therapy student at CIIS and I recently started practicing at the Living Arts Counseling Center.  So far, I’m only working with individual clients (although much of this work is focused on significant relationships), but I’m very interested in working with couples as well.  I use a Developmental frame and some EFT techniques (w/ embodiments and enactments where appropriate), and I would love to extend this work to couples.  Especially young couples (deciding when/how to take the next step) and couples going through life transitions and changes.  Anyway, I just wanted to reach out to you in case you come across folks you’re looking to refer in the East Bay.  My standard free is $50 for a 50 minute session, and I have a sliding scale available.  Here’s my website if you’d like more information:  ameliakriss.com  or call 510 595 5500 x39

Interns at Living Arts Center

Also, most of the trainees/interns at my center (www.livingartscenter.org) work on a sliding scale.  Some slide down to $35/session.

Dr. Tal Harari
3867 Howe Street
Oakland,CA 94611
My (Dr. Harari) practice is down at the moment, and I always provide a certain number of non-prime hours for reduced fee clients.  I am not sure how low is considered low?  My standard rate is $150, but I see reduced fee clients for $75/80.  I have gone lower than that, but with current clients who have hit upon hard times.  For example, I actually see one client right now for $20, but that is because she has become unemployed and is truly barely making it.  I just didn’t feel right about dropping her in her time of need, even though other colleagues suggested I do so.  I guess I can’t always think of our work as merely a business….
